Programs

Programs at Agnew Aquatics are geared towards all skill levels and all ages. Our focus is water safety first with progressive lessons helping tots to adults become comfortable and confident in their desired water activities. No more than four students to a class allow for lots of learning with very little waiting. Programs are broken down into age groups and levels. The goal is to match up students of similar age and skill in the same lesson. Exceptions are made however, based on individual needs, skill development and student requests.

If a parent/student is unsure of the student's skill level a pre-placement test (in-water skills test) is offered. This can be done at the student's convenience prior to his/her scheduled session. If a pre-placement test is deemed unnecessary simply note on the registration form the class level desired.

Parent/Tot:

Ages 6 months to 3 years. Water familiarization courses are developed for the toddler as well as the parent. We assist the parent with techniques used to introduce their child to the wonders of the water.

A pleasant and enjoyable experience is the goal here for both parent and child. Slow, gradual water introduction helps instill confidence in the child and promotes a desire to return for more water fun.

The following levels are offered to students age 3 and up. As an estimate, it takes between one and two sessions to complete the early levels. The more advanced levels with stroke development, endurance and competitive techniques takes additional time and practice.

Level I:

Build confidence and comfort in the water with and without assistance from the instructor. Floating, blowing bubbles, submerging the face and other water exploration skills are developed.

Level II:

Demonstrate flutter kick on front and back. Begin the use of arm action in combination with kicks on front and back. Build comfort level with additional independence in the water.

Level III:

Gliding, diving, reversing direction with minimal assistance. Develop crawl stroke with side breathing, introduce elementary backstroke.

Level IV:

Build comfort with deep-water swimming. Develop front, back crawl along with elementary backstroke. Introduce breaststroke.

Level V:

Focus on stroke refinement. Introduce all strokes: back crawl, front crawl, breastroke, sidestroke and butterfly.

Level VI:

Advanced stroke development. Endurance swim with each stroke. Diving and flip turn development.

Level VII:

Focus on starts, turns and strokes with successful competitive swimming as the goal.

* - Each level of swim lesson also concentrates on progressive degrees of personal safety and rescue.
